B&DARS was originally formed over 40 years ago in the seaside town of Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland – about 12 miles east of Belfast. We are one of the largest radio clubs in Northern Ireland with around 50 members and we hold meetings most months of the year, mainly at “The Boathouse” in Groomsport.
We have a talk at most meetings by either a guest speaker or from one of our own members. The subjects are many and varied but are mainly of a specific radio or a more general technology type area.
Other meetings include annual events like our Quiz Night, Annual Rally, Constructor’s Contest, BBQ, Annual Dinner and Dxpedition.
We are twinned with the Wigtownshire Amateur Radio Society (GM4RIV) which is based in Stranraer on Scotland’s West Coast and we enjoy several inter-club activities during the year.
Applications for our February 2016 Foundation Licence course are Now closed. The course will be held on 27/28 February 2016 at Green Road Community Center, Conlig, Bangor. If you are interested in doing a future course, contact David MI0OBC on 07453283468 or MI0OBC@btopenworld.com.
GI3XRQ is the callsign of the BDARS club station and we compete under this callsign in several HF and VHF contests every year. The station is also activated for special events and often just for fun. It can give members an opportunity to operate on bands and modes that might not normally be available to them. It also serves as a great way to promote the club and for members to improve their skills and gain experience in all types of radio operating.
We always welcome new members and visitors, so if you’re not already a member, check out the calendar and come along to the next meeting. You can click here for an “on-line” membership form. You should print the form, fill it in and send it to Peter Moore MI0HWG or contact Peter on 07989501666.
